Background and Experience
Charles has worked as a life skills educator, helping students with cognitive impairments, intellectual disabilities, behavioral issues, and autism with learning and completing activities of daily living, including schoolwork. He has been a mental health professional in Chicago with adults at a group home, helping them transition from mental health facilities to living in the community more independently. During his internships, he’s worked at a neuro-rehabilitation facility (Baylor, Scott, and White Institute of Rehabilitation) and a homeless shelter (The Samaritan Inn) counseling clients. He has worked with a diverse clientele with presenting issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, frustrations, substance abuse, adjustment issues, relationships, motivation, self-worth, traumatic brain injuries, and bipolar disorder, to name a few. Charles sees therapy as an opportunity for clients to explore their experiences and approach and overcome obstacles they have faced in order to reach the goals they believe are fundamental to the life they hope to achieve.
Personal Statement
It's my passion to support and encourage others. Counseling is not just what I do; it's who I am. It is key for me to attune myself to the emotional tone, tempo, and flow of the client's expression, and strive to connect with my clients by listening to their inner music and reflecting on what I hear to bring them in concert with their mind, body, and spirit. I assist my clients in being the best person they can be, actualizing their authenticity, and achieving synchronicity. I help clients to build their inner strength and reach their goals. Healing, processing, compassion, and growth are the pillars of my practice. I let my clients know I'm here for them through my words and actions.
My counseling approach is person-centered, so I value the therapeutic relationship first and foremost while being present-minded. I create a warm, accepting, and empathic atmosphere to empower clients to persevere through difficulties and blossom towards their true potential. I also utilize mindfulness, positive psychology, and motivational interviewing within my practice as they are techniques and approaches that resonate the most with me and how I view treating others and helping people. I use the tools that I have to attune better, understand, and facilitate the most growth for my clients. Where there's a skill, there's a way so let's flow, grow, and glow! I'm here to help my clients discover and unlock their best selves. I look forward to helping you along your journey.
