Personal Statement
Having a heightened sense of empathy is absolutely where my passion for mental health originated. It’s easy for me to wear the lonely, broken, abandoned shoes that so many people wear when you gather the courage to confront mental health issues, or any issue that in life that is considered “taboo” that has been avoided. It could also be that whatever you are experiencing is all new for you and need a bit of guidance through the unknown. I want to build treatment plans with clients that help them feel hopeful for their future, empowered, and capable. Along with the “talk” approach to therapy, I also assist clients in developing a range of skills related to communication, coping, etc.
A person deciding to choose healing is huge! I know it’s hard to take this leap. I know it’s hard to be vulnerable with an unknown person. I feel like it’s a common misconception that you’re expected to “unload” in the first therapy session, which is not the case, and can cause additional stress and overwhelm. It is very important to me that my clients do not feel the pressure to do that, as I want them to begin where they are comfortable beginning, and to feel safe.
