Background and Experience
Marisa’s background experience includes a twenty-seven-year career in education as a classroom teacher and instructional coach with experience in K-8 literacy intervention, educational and second language testing, parent and teacher support, and adult education. Marisa’s love for teaching and helping others reach their full potential carries over into counseling, where she has experience with school-aged children, adolescents, families, and adults. Her clinical focus is anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities, divorce, blended families, women’s issues, and life transitions. Marisa offers faith-based counseling upon client request.
Personal Statement
It takes courage to come to counseling, and I am so glad you are here! Genuine connection is the heart of the counseling relationship, and you will find me authentic as a person and counselor. While I am energetic and believe laughter is a part of the healing process, I also have a deep compassion for others and will journey alongside you as you share your story, offering encouragement, unconditional acceptance, and hope during this life-changing experience. I utilize a person-centered and integrative therapeutic approach and will adapt treatment to fit the unique needs of each of my clients.
Education and Training
Marisa earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. She is working toward completing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. Marisa has gained clinical experience working as an intern at a nonprofit counseling center providing play therapy, individual therapy, and parenting support to clients of all ages.
