Background and Experience
Sarah works with adults and seniors. She has worked in a crisis center in DFW, and prior to that was a paramedic serving her local community as well as contracted for the military in Virginia and in the Middle East. Most of her experience has been with individuals in crisis; and in the areas of stressful life events, chronic illness, military and first responder related traumas and stressors, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, addiction, and challenges faced in the lives of seniors. Sarah enjoys working with the elderly, individuals experiencing new and chronic health conditions, and with individuals who are looking to make positive changes in their life and process life situations. Sarah works with each client using a strengths-based, person-centered, holistic approach to address the challenges of their unique situation. She also helps clients to develop coping skills to help them feel better equipped to handle challenges in their day to day lives. She provides Christian integration counseling upon request.
Personal Statement
I have always had an interest in psychology, counseling, and helping others. I initially chose to help people through providing emergency care in a variety of settings as an EMT, then paramedic for nearly two decades. After a medical emergency changed nearly every aspect of my life, I felt called to continue to help others, but through counseling. My unique background of being born into a military family; having first hand experiences of challenges faced by first responders, active duty military personnel and veterans, and military families; and having a unique insight into what stressors and traumas can lead to physically, emotionally, and spiritually has informed my passion for creating a safe place where clients can let their guard down as we explore what has led them to therapy, create goals to improve their quality of life, and work towards achieving their goals. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist who incorporates a person-centered approach to meet each client where they are surrounding their goals, values, culture, life stage, and unique situations to make clients feel empowered.
