Background and Experience
Erica’s lifelong pursuit of learning in the mental health field combined with her time in a clinical role at CCNT have equipped her with the ability to provide competent counseling to a wide range of individuals in various stages of life. Through a life rich with trials and triumphs, she gained the ability to combine clinical tools with experiential knowledge to serve those in need of a compassionate counselor. Her experiences include working with school-aged children, teens and adolescents, parents, blended families, addiction, anxiety, depression, women’s issues, and grief (with all its many faces), and she is a neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ allied therapist. Erica integrates a strength-based, person-centered approach with a variety of therapeutic methods to meet the needs of each client’s unique experience without judgment or bias. She is willing to provide faith-based counseling upon request.
Personal Statement
From as far back as I can remember I’ve had two deep loves: people and stories. These two loves and a personal search for purpose and meaning led me to pursue an education in psychology and counseling. A deep desire was born within me to understand and come alongside people who find themselves in need of a safe place to land, a fresh ear to listen, and a new lens.. In addition to gaining a wealth of clinical knowledge, I learned that the power of this knowledge lies in understanding that at the heart of every individual is a longing to be seen, heard, understood, and valued. I believe deeply in the power of authenticity and vulnerability, and endeavor to model these virtues in the therapeutic relationship. I believe there is real transformation that occurs when we gain insight and self-awareness, and that shame slowly dies when stories are told in safe spaces. As a counselor it is my privilege to provide such a place, to walk with clients through their story, and to guide them through life’s challenges towards positive change, healing, and growth.
Education and Training
Erica received her bachelor's degree In Christian Counseling from Liberty University while raising a family, and is currently “white knuckling through the home stretch” of her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Her clinical experience has been gained working with teens in various lay counseling and mentorship roles and serving as a counselor with the Crisis Text Line. Erica considers it an honor to have served for the last 5 years as your Client Care Coordinator here at CCNT, and says that the knowledge and experience she has gained working with and learning from the incredible clinicians at CCNT is immeasurable. In her free time Erica can be found with her nose in a book or pursuing additional training to build clinical competency in areas of interest such as neurodivergence, trauma, addiction, LGBTQIA+, eating disorders, CBT, mindfulness, and whatever unique challenges clients may bring to session.
