Background and Experience
Wendy always knew she wanted to help others. She took psychology classes during her undergraduate studies to understand human behavior even though her major was in Information Systems. She spent her vacation breaks volunteering at a domestic violence shelter for women and crisis hotline. She understood the power of listening and the impact empathy and a “no judgement” environment had on individuals. Wendy’s therapeutic approaches include Person Centered Therapy (PCT) which allows clients to discover and identify the solutions to their problems, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to challenge negative thoughts and behaviors, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) to help clients find solutions to current problems and Structural Family Therapy to help with unclear boundaries. Wendy works with children, teens, adults, couples and families dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, and marital issues.
Personal Statement
As a child, I would wear a white coat and have my siblings lay on a couch while I ask what was bothering them. I did not have a word for what I wanted to be yet, but I knew somehow that I wanted to help others. I believe humans beings are innately good and that environmental factors and life experiences contribute to the dysfunction individuals, families, and couples face. I also believe that individuals are intrinsically motivated to grow and naturally self-driven to change with the right therapeutic tools. I view counseling as the catalyst for helping clients explore their emotions and behaviors and set goals to achieve a better life and better version of themselves. My goal is to provide a safe, judgment-free environment so that clients can freely express themselves. I want clients to enter my office and know that I care, and that I honestly want to help them.
