Background and Experience
Corinne works primarily with young children from preschool to elementary age. She has worked in school settings in Dallas and Austin, as well as community mental health treatment. Her experience is in the areas of trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, stressful life events, emotional regulation, and behavioral challenges. Corinne enjoys seeing children’s pride in their abilities to overcome obstacles using the Collaborative Problem Solving method to build skills. Corinne uses both non-directive and directive play therapy approaches along with somatic techniques, mindfulness, and sensory based therapeutic activities using art and music to meet each child where they are and support them in overcoming challenges.
Personal Statement
I have always known that I wanted to work with young children and first followed that path through becoming a preschool teacher. However, I noticed that my favorite students were the ones other teachers complained about - the students who went from 0 to 60 with their emotions and had more difficulty regulating their behavior. Wanting to make a bigger difference for those children led me to clinical social work, where I was fascinated by research into the impact of trauma and attachment on brain development. I believe in empowering children and their families to increase their sense of felt safety, develop coping strategies, and manage past trauma and future challenges. I am passionate about providing a calm, safe place for children to explore their feelings and build resilience.
