Background and Experience
Meena has worked with adolescents, adults, and seniors in various settings. She gained clinical experience working at Medical City Behavioral Health Hospital in McKinney and with the International Rescue Committee of Dallas. These clinical internships offered Meena the opportunity to work with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, exposure to trauma, grief, self-harm, co-occurring disorders, and identity/role fit crises. Meena’s work with refugee clients at IRC allowed her to work with people from all over the world, and developing an understanding of the client’s culture and social environment remains a priority in her work. Meena primarily utilizes a client-centered approach to therapy, working to empower clients by helping them develop insight into their strengths. She has a soft spot in her heart for work with the LGBTQ+ population.
Personal Statement
I believe that all humans are capable of growth and that each person possesses the strengths and skills to overcome life’s obstacles. In difficult times, understanding and accessing those strengths can be very challenging. My goals as a therapist are: to provide you with a safe space to tell your story, to support you as we work together to identify challenges and create goals, and help you tap into your strengths and skills to reach those goals. I focus on creating a continually supportive environment for each client and recognize that each client is the expert in their own life. I use different types of therapies - including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. This allows me to tailor our work to your individual needs, goals, and strengths. Together we can make a real difference in your life!
Education and Training
Meena earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Rice University, and completed her Master in Social Work from University of Texas at Arlington, with a specialization in Mental Health and Substance Misuse. Meena’s clinical experience in both in-patient and clinic settings allowed for work with individuals with a wide range of mental health disorders, and Meena volunteered as a crisis line specialist for several years and spoke with individuals in crises from all walks of life.
