Crystal Cooke-Brown, LMSW

Background and Experience
Crystal provides counseling services to families, adults, young adults, and teens. She facilitates group therapy in a psychiatric setting, was a School Social Worker for twenty-two years, has served as a Counselor in residential treatment facilities, has provided home-based counseling, and briefly worked as a Legal Social Worker. Most of her experience lies in the treatment of symptoms associated with mood disorders, behavioral issues, trauma and stressor-related disorders, as well as addiction/recovery. Crystal finds purpose in helping clients manage emotions, restructure thinking, and reach their full potential. She will work with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.

Personal Statement
I was in the third grade when I first heard the term “foster care”. One of my classmates was in the foster care program. She was withdrawn, disheveled, and in need of a listening ear, so I listened. It was then that I got a glimpse of my life’s purpose. Many years later, I decided to study psychology before continuing to gain education and experience in psychotherapy approaches designed to treat dysfunctional thinking, build solutions rather than solve problems, and encourage individuals to take control of their future. I am passionate about helping anyone who wants to better manage the challenging facets of the human condition. I believe all people, despite their experiences, environment, and current state have a purpose and hidden desire to make each day meaningful.

Education and Training
Crystal earned a Baccalaureate in Psychology from Virginia State University located in Petersburg, Virginia, and a Master of Social Work degree from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. Her clinical experience consists of group therapy with adolescent female delinquent offenders, chemical dependency groups, as well as process groups for clients struggling with depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. Crystal has counseled youth who witnessed violence and survivors of domestic violence.
